API Terms

Last updated: June 2026

Welcome

CourseQuest is pleased to free public API access to course-catalog information. We encourge you to use the API to build awesome tools and services for students, universities, and the public, consistent with the following:

  • Please respect the service by limiting queries to 1 HTTP request/second. We impose soft rate limits to IPs/ASNs to enforce respect this limit.
  • Please note that data is collected via university SIS systems or through data exchange agreements with partner universities.
  • We do not guarantee the accuracy or completeness of the data, and we are not responsible for any decisions made based on API responses.

Scope

These API Terms apply to your use of CourseQuest's public API, including the endpoints described in the Developer docs. They supplement the CourseQuest Terms of Service.

Permitted use

You may use the API to access publicly available course-catalog information for lawful, non-abusive purposes. You must comply with applicable law and may not use the API in a way that harms CourseQuest, universities, students, or other users.

Restrictions

Do not bypass technical controls, interfere with the service, use automated requests at a volume that degrades availability, or attempt to access non-public data. Do not present CourseQuest data as official university information or use it to make enrollment decisions without directing users to verify details with their institution.

Data and attribution

API responses may be delayed, incomplete, or inaccurate and are provided for informational purposes only. When displaying API data, identify CourseQuest as the source and preserve any source information included in the response, unless you are a university querying your own data. CourseQuest does not grant rights to university names, marks, or other third-party content. Course names, numbers, and other identifiers are the property of their respective universities.

Brand guidelines and licenses

When you publicly display data from the API, provide clear, reasonably prominent credit to CourseQuest, such as “Data provided by CourseQuest.” The credit must link to CourseQuest when links are supported.

  • Do not state or imply that CourseQuest, a university, or any other data source endorses your product or service.
  • Do not use the CourseQuest name, logo, or other brand assets without our prior written permission, except for plain-text attribution.
  • University names, logos, and trademarks belong to their respective owners; API access does not grant a license to use them.
  • Keep any source, license, or attribution information included in an API response when you redistribute that response.

For permission to use CourseQuest brand assets or for attribution questions, contact us at [email protected].

Availability and changes

The API is provided as available. We may limit, suspend, change, or discontinue any endpoint or access to it at any time, including to protect the service. We may update these API Terms; continued use after an update means you accept the revised terms.

No warranties

The API and its data are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis without warranties of any kind. CourseQuest is not liable for losses arising from API use or reliance on API responses. If you do not agree to these API Terms, you are not permitted to use the API.
