Catalog description

This course will explore best practices for teaching reading and writing across the disciplines for PK-12 educators. This course will focus on issues surrounding reading and writing development to include: vocabulary, background knowledge, comprehension, grammar and syntax teaching and modeling, writing to learn, and process based writing as outlined by the Common Core Standards and the Oregon Early Literacy Framework. We will examine how literacy informs standards and required content across the disciplines and intersects with content teaching to include science, social studies, math and the arts.
