The Dietetic Profession

Catalog description

This course introduces students to the background of the nutrition/dietetics profession, the meaning of professionalism, the Code of Ethics for the profession, certification and registration requirements within the dietetics field, relevant professional organizations, the relationship of the dietitian to the health care team, the process of applying for supervised practice programs, the scope of dietetic practice, an introduction to the RDN exam, and various career options. In addition, students will learn about the academic requirements and curricular issues related to the Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics, and will be introduced to the WCU accelerated master of science in community nutrition program as well as the WCU dietetic internship. Also, students will understand how to create a resume and a personal statement to support subsequent opportunities. Lastly, non-dietetics career options and graduate education will be explored.
