Wine Appreciation

Catalog description
This course familiarizes students with wine appreciation. Topics include: the history of wine; what wine is; how wine is made and sold; how to evaluate the sensory properties of different styles of wine; the major wine producing regions of the world; developing, creating, and sustaining food and beverage wine programs; wine and food pairings; and proper wine service and presentation. Students will engage in applied research related to wine sensory appreciation. Course Learning Outcomes 1. Understand the technical details of wine production, specifically viticulture and enology. 2. Understand the wine marketing environment, including but not limited to distribution, off-premise retail sales, on-premise hospitality sales, and wine tourism. 3. Understand the history of wine. 4. Identify the major wine producing countries of the world and assess wine grapes and styles indigenous to those areas. 5. Apply the principles of wine sensory evaluation. View Class Schedule
