History, features, operation procedures and management of lodging facilities both in the United States and in other parts of the world. The course involves an experiential learning component. Typically offered Fall Spring. Course Learning Outcomes 1. Describe the evolution of the lodging sector in the United States (U.S.) and around the world. 2. Identify hotel types, brands as well as management and ownership structures in 21st century lodging business. 3. Describe how work is organized in hotels. 4. State the duties and responsibilities of positions within lodging business. 5. Describe and critically evaluate front office and housekeeping procedures in hotels. 6. Identify internal and external reports (such as the STR Report) commonly used in lodging business. 7. Compute basic key performance indicators (KPIs) (such as occupancy percent, ADR, RevPar). 8. Discuss some of the latest technological advances in lodging business. 9. Describe common unethical practices and innovative strategies in reducing such practices in lodging business. 10.
