This course introduces PhD students to randomized controlled trials as a rigorous methodology for advancing causal inference in strategic management, entrepreneurship, and innovation research. Experimental methods enable scholars to identify causal mechanisms precisely, test theoretical predictions in organizational settings, and generate actionable managerial insights. The course provides the methodological foundation and strategic perspective necessary for designing impactful experimental research. We examine how experimental approaches address inference problems in strategy, emphasizing research questions where experiments offer unique contributions that complement existing methods. Students learn how different experimental designs illuminate distinct aspects of firm behavior and competitive dynamics.
