Environmentally Sustainable Behavior in Organizations

This course is experimental for Fall 2012. The purpose of this course is to provide you with the knowledge and skills necessary to examine organizational environmental sustainability from an individual-level perspective. In doing so, it will provide a mix of cutting-edge empirical findings and knowledge gleaned from practical applications of organizational behavior and human resources research. You will gain a strong understanding of what it means to be green from an employee perspective, how organizational-level variables relate to (and motivate) employees, responsible behaviors, and how to select, train, and motivate for individual environmental responsibility. Topics such as organizational interventions, leader vision, cross-cultural concepts of sustainability, and environmental deviance will also be discussed. Readings (research and case studies), assignments, and in-class exercises will be used to illustrate important principles of sustainable behavior in organizations.
