Catalog description

This seminar will focus on theories of the urban milieu that rely on evolutionary biology. For these biologists sexuality was a major topic of debate. These theories did not comprise a minor discourse; indeed they fueled the major urbanist debates of the modern era, while the discussion of sexuality fell into decline. Why? What was lost in the process? We will read major urban and psychoanalytic texts and screen and discuss films that foreground the city/sex relation.
