In this advanced production seminar, we will address fundamental questions about the status of representation—of the animal and of ourselves—in the age of biomechanical reproduction. Through the study and production of time-based media, our aim will be to rethink animality. Students will make a series of filmic assignments about animals, with multiple screening and readings, including Electric Animal: Toward a Rhetoric of Wildlife, by Akira Mizuta Lippit; The Companion Species Manifesto, by Donna Harroway, and Animal Liberation, by Peter Singer.
