Catalog description

This course is designed to accommodate the needs of our advanced students (Juniors and Seniors). It provides a structured environment in which to create longer, more ambitious films, while at the same time exploring little-examined topics within the practice of filmmaking. Students will work on a project of their choosing throughout the semester, using class meetings to critique their works in progress at regular intervals. In between screenings of student work, we will examine topics such as the relationship between still photography and the moving image, non-narrative experimental films from the canon, and the essay film. Essentially a studio course, class meetings will be long, combining discussions of student work, readings, and screenings.
