Catalog description

An introduction to the basic statistical methods and analyses commonly used in social and behavioral science research (use of probability techniques, hypothesis testing, and predictive techniques), including applications of statistical software to social science data. Topics include descriptive statistics; probability and sampling distributions; statistical inference; correlation and linear regression; analysis of variance, chi-square and t-tests; and application of technology for statistical analysis including the interpretation of the relevance of the statistical findings. Application of both hand computation and statistical software (e.g. Jamovi) to data in a behavioral and social science contexts will be emphasized to include the interpretation of the relevance of the statistical findings. This course is designed for Psychology students who plan to transfer to a UC/CSU. Prerequisite: Placement as determined by the college's multiple measures assessment process or completion of a course taught at or above the intermediate algebra level.
