Applied Brass

Catalog description

This course consists of individualized study of the appropriate techniques and repertoire for a brass instrument through private instruction. The emphasis is on the progressive improvement of technical facility, musicianship, expressive interpretation, and other skills necessary for solo performance. For music majors with a concentration in either trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium or tuba. Achievement is evaluated through a juried performance. Repeatable: May be repeated three times. Entrance Skills: Audition required. (Students may enroll in the course, but may be dropped based on the audition result.) Advisory: Concurrent participation in an appropriate ensemble and enrollment in appropriate-level major preparation courses from the MUS1A-2E sequence is strongly recommended.
