Catalog description
In this course, students receive instruction in academic reading and writing, including writing processes, effective use of language, analytical thinking, and the foundations of academic research. This course includes embedded support. Emphasis on developing academic mindsets and student skills. Students practice expository and argumentative writing, close reading, cogent thinking, research strategies, information literacy, and documentation. Focus is on the integration of reading, writing, and communication skills. Students will write a minimum of 5000 words of formal writing across major assignments. Prerequisite: Placement as determined by the college's multiple measures assessment process. Limitations on Enrollment: Course not open for credit to students with credit in ENGL C1000 or ESL 1A.
