CHEM 1A
General Chemistry
Yuba College · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
Students will explore the fundamental principles of inorganic chemistry including the nomenclature of inorganic compounds, chemical formulas, equations and reactions; stoichiometry; structure of atoms, ions, and molecules and the periodic table; oxidation-reduction and acid-base reactions; gas laws; thermochemistry and equilibrium. Laboratory techniques in the investigation of these chemical systems will be extensively developed, including experiments utilizing calorimetry to determine the enthalpy change associated with physical and chemical processes, fundamental gas laws analyzing pressure, volume, and temperature relationships, and acid-base chemistry utilizing titration analysis. Prerequisite: Satisfactory completion of: MATH 52; CHEM 2A or High school chemistry with a grade of C or better AND a passing score on the Chemistry Assessment Examination. Advisories: Language - recommended eligibility for English 1A Mathematics - recommended eligibility for Math 52
