Catalog description

This clinical externship provides students with an immersive, supervised clinical experience in approved ophthalmic practice settings. Students apply and refine the full range of ophthalmic skills acquired throughout the program while functioning as entry-level ophthalmic technicians under direct supervision. Emphasis is placed on independent workflow participation, professional conduct, patient communication, accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to scope of practice. This externship represents the culminating clinical experience of the program and prepares students for employment and professional certification. Additional Information: Courses must be taken in the prescribed sequence as part of a cohort. Students progress through the certificate together, and courses are not available out of sequence. 4 credit hours; 240 clinical contact hours .
