This course introduces students to the principles and clinical purpose of retinoscopy, refractometry, and refraction refinement techniques used in ophthalmic practice. Emphasis is placed on understanding optical principles, interpreting findings, and recognizing the role of these procedures in determining refractive status. Students are introduced to ocular balancing concepts and the technician’s role in supporting refraction workflows within scope of practice. Hands-on performance of retinoscopy and refraction techniques is addressed in designated clinical skills laboratory and clinical courses. Additional Information: Courses must be taken in the prescribed sequence as part of a cohort. Students progress through the certificate together, and courses are not available out of sequence. Lecture – 3 credit hours .
