Catalog description

This course introduces students to corneal and ocular measurement concepts, basic contact lens principles, and routine ophthalmic equipment care and maintenance. Topics include keratometry and biometry fundamentals, contact lens types and fitting considerations, and the purpose and clinical relevance of measurements used in ophthalmic practice. Students are also introduced to basic equipment troubleshooting, cleaning, and maintenance procedures. Emphasis is placed on understanding results, patient education, safety, and the ophthalmic technician’s role within scope of practice. Hands-on performance of these skills is addressed in designated laboratory and clinical courses. Additional Information: Courses must be taken in the prescribed sequence as part of a cohort. Students progress through the certificate together, and courses are not available out of sequence. Lecture – 3 credit hours .
