Catalog description

This course expands upon introductory ophthalmic pharmacology and diagnostic concepts with an emphasis on medications commonly used in ophthalmic practice, advanced principles of tonometry, and an overview of supplemental ophthalmic tests. Students examine medication classifications, indications, contraindications, and safety considerations relevant to pupil dilation, glaucoma management, and diagnostic procedures. The course also reviews types of tonometry and introduces the purpose, interpretation, and clinical relevance of commonly used supplemental tests. Emphasis is placed on clinical understanding, patient safety, and the ophthalmic technician’s role within scope of practice. Hands-on skill performance is addressed in subsequent clinical skills laboratory courses. Additional Information: Courses must be taken in the prescribed sequence as part of a cohort. Students progress through the certificate together, and courses are not available out of sequence. Lecture – 3 credit hours .
