Catalog description

This course introduces students to the anatomy and physiology of the visual pathway, principles of pupil evaluation, and common conditions affecting pupillary function. Students learn the purpose, interpretation, and clinical relevance of pupil assessments, slit lamp examination concepts including anterior chamber angle assessment, and intraocular pressure measurement. The course also introduces principles related to the instillation of ophthalmic drops, including indications, safety considerations, and technician responsibilities within scope of practice. Emphasis is placed on understanding findings, recognizing abnormalities, and preparing students for hands-on performance in subsequent clinical skills laboratory courses. Additional Information: Courses must be taken in the prescribed sequence as part of a cohort. Students progress through the certificate together, and courses are not available out of sequence. Lecture – 3 credit hours .
