Catalog description

This course builds upon foundational ophthalmic knowledge to introduce students to basic and intermediate ocular motility concepts, selected sensory vision assessments, and fundamental optics principles relevant to ophthalmic practice. Students learn the purpose, interpretation, and clinical relevance of motility testing procedures, including color vision screening, stereoacuity, and Hirschberg testing. The course also introduces core optics concepts, including spherical equivalent, transposition, lensometry, spectacle lenses, prism, and phoropter setup. Emphasis is placed on understanding results, patient education, and the ophthalmic technician’s role within scope of practice. This course prepares students for advanced clinical skills labs and patient-based clinical experiences. Additional Information: Courses must be taken in the prescribed sequence as part of a cohort. Students progress through the certificate together, and courses are not available out of sequence. Lecture – 3 credit hours .
