Catalog description
This clinical skills laboratory course provides supervised, hands-on instruction in foundational ophthalmic testing procedures. Students develop introductory proficiency in visual acuity testing, autorefraction, confrontation visual fields, extraocular muscle (EOM) assessment, and ocular dominance testing. Emphasis is placed on proper technique, patient communication, infection control, documentation, and adherence to scope of practice. Skills are practiced in a controlled laboratory environment and evaluated through competency-based assessments. This course prepares students for advanced ophthalmic skills labs and formal clinical experiences. 2 credit hours; 60 lab contact hours .
