Catalog description

This course introduces students to common ocular conditions and systemic diseases with ocular manifestations, with an emphasis on recognizing signs and symptoms and understanding their relevance in patient care. Students will learn the fundamentals of obtaining and documenting a patient’s chief complaint (CC), history of present illness (HPI), and basic impression and plan terminology as used in ophthalmic practice. An introduction to ophthalmic pharmacology is included to familiarize students with common medication classes, routes of administration, and technician responsibilities related to medication use. This course prepares students for more advanced clinical skills and patient assessment coursework. Additional Information: Courses must be taken in the prescribed sequence as part of a cohort. Students progress through the certificate together, and courses are not available out of sequence. Lecture - 3 credit hours.
