This course introduces students to the foundational knowledge and professional responsibilities of the ophthalmic technician within the eye care team. Emphasis is placed on the roles and scope of practice of ophthalmic technicians, an overview of ophthalmic subspecialties, basic ocular anatomy and physiology, common refractive errors, and the components of a comprehensive eye examination. The course prepares students for entry-level clinical observation and subsequent hands-on ophthalmic coursework by establishing essential terminology, concepts, and professional expectations. Courses must be taken in the prescribed sequence as part of a cohort. Additional Information: Students progress through the certificate together, and courses are not available out of sequence. Lecture - 3 credit hours.
