Catalog description

Students will explore a range of research projects that apply theories of discourse to the study of human language use (both speech and writing). Students will consider what “discourse” is and how it is used in research, from the microscopic (e.g., the close analysis of individual utterances) to the macroscopic (e.g., the study of how cultural conditions shape broad patterns of speaking, thinking, and acting).
