Catalog description
Course in nonfiction narrative writing that examines a range of prose styles, including personal essays and memoirs, travel writing, political commentary, and forms of science writing. Students learn to identify and use the rhetorical elements that inform narrative nonfiction writing situations: purpose and audience, characters and dialogue, the narrative arc, narrative themes, imagery, symbolism, and metaphor. Students read, analyze, and write narrative nonfiction essays, using various sources of information. They also learn to communicate in multimodal formats, using different forms of technology. Prereq.: Completion of ENGL 1551 or ENGL 1551H with grade "C" or better.
