Catalog description
This course provides an overview of teaching methods in secondary school art education, grades 5-12 (middle school, early adolescents 5-8 and high school, middle adolescents 9-12). Students will explore art education content (e.g., studio art, art criticism, art history, aesthetics, visual culture, art and technology, etc.) as well as pedagogical approaches. They will gain understanding of adolescent characteristics, curriculum design, assessment, and implement art lessons to middle and high school age youths in educational settings. Students will be required to complete 24 preclinical hours of intensive teaching experience in two field placements at the secondary school. Prereq.: C or better in ART 3737 or permission of instructor.
