Spiritually Informed Social Work

Catalog description

Working with individuals, families, groups and communities that represent varying degrees of spiritual and religious commitment requires a unique sensitivity and knowledge-base to ensure competent social work practice. Students will continually reflect upon their client-based interactions and will apply ethical standards to their practice. This course will focus on the application of spirituality and attunement in the helping process with individuals, groups, families and communities. The content will encourage an appreciation of the spiritual needs of diverse populations and there will be opportunities to apply their developing awareness and knowledge to their own practice with a particular focus on the process of self-reflection, personal biases, intersectionality, transference and countertransference. The final project will include a written group project for possible article submissions. Restriction(s): For Ph.D. and DSW students only.
