Trauma-Informed Child Welfare

Catalog description

This course immerses students in the knowledge-base regarding trauma in childhood and adolescence and its effects, as well as issues related to working ethically and effectively with those affected. This course provides students with a theoretical and neurophysiological understanding of these traumas, their effects, and trauma-informed, evidence-based treatments. Case examples supplemented with salient readings address the epigenetics and neuroscience of trauma, as well as cultural status, race and ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, disability status, and other social and demographic characteristics for understanding and working with traumatized victims and survivors within a strengths perspective. Information is applicable to both micro- and macro-focused students.
