Catalog description

This course introduces students to the physical principles governing matter at the nanometer scale, where quantum mechanical effects dominate and classical descriptions break down. Topics include quantum confinement, electron transport in low-dimensional systems, surface and interface physics, and the optical and electronic properties of nanostructures such as quantum dots, nanowires, and thin films.
