Advanced Forensic Science Freedom Field Clinic Practicum

Catalog description

In this practicum, students build on and extend the work they did in a prior semester in the Forensic Science Freedom Field Clinic. Students will continue research, investigation, and litigation for the cases they were assigned, with the goal of completing the first stage of litigation, which may include filing motions, presenting to Conviction Integrity Units, or submitting clemency petitions. Having completed the Field Clinic and Seminar in a prior semester, students will put what they learned to further use in this advanced practicum. In the prior semester, students may have worked to develop relationships with clients and spent time investigating the underlying facts of their cases, researching complex legal issues, and digesting lengthy records. In this advanced practicum, they will write and refine drafts to prepare for litigation and in some cases assist in litigation before state courts. Alternatively, students may draft and develop presentations for prosecutors with the goal of getting a client resentenced or exonerated. Prerequisite(s): LAW 9204 .
