Catalog description
The music industry must constantly adapt to, and often predict, the changes in technology that will affect how music is created and consumed. This course will serve as an introduction to the legal issues involved in the creation, exploitation, and protection of music, and analyze how advancements in technology and music consumption have resulted in changes in the law. We will discuss how music law impacts those in the music industry. from recording artists to songwriters, record labels to music publishers, and radio broadcasters to digital music and social media platforms. as well as the everyday music consumer. This course will explore the history of music rights and the roles and relationships of the different players in the music industry. And we will discuss how the music industry is adapting to advancements in AI, web3, and the metaverse and how that will once again alter the legal landscape. Prerequisite(s): LAW 7572 .
