Professionalism and Legal Practice

Catalog description

This course is a mandatory, year-long instructional program for first year J.D. students on a variety of professional development topics aimed toward creating competent and compassionate future lawyers. With instructors from the Office of Student Services and Advising, the Office of Career Services, and the Law Library, these weekly sessions are tailored to the timing of other events in each semester, including the Elements of Law exam, Legal Writing assignments, internship application deadlines, and exam preparation. Topics include legal research, academic success, networking, interview skills, professional communication, imposter syndrome, time management, problem-solving, leadership, mental health and wellness for lawyers, and diversity and inclusion. The program provides relevant information in a supportive and engaging environment while reminding first year students of the resources available to them at Cardozo.
