Introduction to Zionism

This course offers an introductory exploration of the history and ideas of Zionism, the modern Jewish national movement. Designed for students with little or no prior background in Jewish or Israeli history, it examines the emergence of Zionism in nineteenth-century Europe, its leading thinkers such as Theodor Herzl and Ahad Ha-Am, and the diverse historical and intellectual streams that shaped the movement's political, cultural, religious, and revisionist. Through selected readings and discussions, students will gain insight into the historical context of the Zionist movement, its connection to broader questions of nationalism and identity, and its continuing relevance in understanding the modern State of Israel.
