Transatlantic Slavery

Catalog description

In this course, we will read and discuss 17-18th-century literature to analyze aesthetic and rhetorical representations of race and enslavement in tandem with the rise of modern conceptions of human rights. These texts will includes accounts by formerly enslaved authors as well as by philosophers, novelists, poets, economic theorists, and eye witnesses to transatlantic slavery. Students will develop their own research projects relevant to the course. Prerequisite(s): BUS1010 or FYWR1020.
