Catalog description

In this course, students will explore a variety of texts that focus on women’s participation in early Christianity. The class will contextulize such texts and their representations of women with attention to Greco-Roman and Jewish culture and history. In their reading of canonical and non-canonical texts, students will engage a variety of methodologies in order to consider such issues as the place of gender in the developing theology of the early church and women’s leadership in the earliest Christian communities. Restrictions: Must be enrolled in one of the following Levels: Graduate College of Arts & Sciences Theology
