Catalog description

This course will explore the political history, institutions, actors, processes, policies, and political culture of Western Europe, with particular emphasis on Germany, France, and Great Britain. Investigation of the major issue of European integration, with focus on the changing definition, role, and significance of the European Union. Examining of current debates over the limits of a united Europe, a single European currency, and a wider EU membership. The course will also consider the political implications for Europe of the end of Communist systems in the East and the formation of new political alignments in Central and Eastern Europe, as well as Russia. Finally, we will study Europe’s developing role in a new world of complex interdependence. College of Arts & Sciences Political Science
