Catalog description

Starting from the ideal gas law, this course introduces the statistical interpretation of thermodynamics. Topics covered include: i) thermal energy and heat capacity, ii) entropy and irreversibility, iii) heat engines and refrigerators, and iv) Boltzmann Statistics. Prerequisites: PHYS172 or PHYS160 College of Arts & Sciences Physics & Engineering
