Culture and Occupation

Catalog description

Culture includes people\2019s beliefs, values, behaviors, and ways of understanding. This course will assist the student in becoming a culturally competent and effective practitioner. The ability to demonstrate cultural humility is critical for client-centered practice and improved health outcomes. Culture influences all aspects of occupation. Students will begin to understand culture; cultural effectiveness in clinical and community practice, education, and research; and evaluate their cultural effectiveness. Reflective questions will challenge students to consider their own culture and ways in which they can interact with others. The course will discuss service delivery models and settings, inter- and intra-disciplinary team relationships, relevant ethical issues, cultural competence, sensitivity, and expectations for the upcoming international fieldwork experience. Restrictions: Must be enrolled in one of the following Programs: Occupational Therapy Doctorate Must be enrolled in one of the following Levels: Graduate College of Health and Human Sciences Occupational Therapy
