Catalog description

This course provides an in-depth study of pharmacologic principles and clinical therapeutics across the lifespan. Students analyze the mechanisms of drug action, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics in relation to pathophysiologic processes and clinical decision-making. Emphasis is placed on safe prescribing practices, patient education, and the integration of evidence-based pharmacologic management in various patient settings. This course explores how genetics, comorbidities, and sociocultural factors influence medication efficacy and safety. Students evaluate current research, clinical guidelines, and regulatory frameworks, including the Ohio Board of Nursing six-hour Controlled Substance Prescriptive Authority content, to promote ethical, evidence-informed, and person-centered pharmacologic care in advanced nursing practice.
