Fitness in Special Populations

Catalog description
This course provides an overview of the impact of exercise and physical activity for individuals that fall into select special populations (those with a physical or mental impairment or fall into a subgroup of people with limitations or deviations from standard/typical assessment and exercise prescription). Conditions and focus areas to be discussed include musculoskeletal conditions and adaptive athletes, mental health, vision/hearing impairment, respiratory conditions, neurologic conditions and autoimmune/post-COVID challenges. This course prepares students to consider the differences in both fitness- and health-focused professions. Additionally, this course will provide an overview of health issues and disparities that affect special populations. Prerequisites: Undergraduate level EXSC320 Minimum grade of C and Undergraduate level EXSC380 Minimum grade of C Course Attributes: Solidarity & Kinship Flag College of Health and Human Sciences School of Sport Science & Mgmt
