Foundations of US TESOL

Catalog description

Foundations of US TESOL provides the core foundations of second language acquisition for K-12 teaching in the United States. This course includes exploration of the history of ESL teaching in the United States, teacher and learner demographic and diversity trends, ESL instructional models, landmark court cases and legislation, content and language proficiency standards for English Learners (ELs) and the process of identification and services administered to Els, including specific strategies for SLIFE (Students with Limited or Interrupted Formal Education). Students will understand the history and fundamental responsibilities of accommodation for ELs both in the tutoring or sheltered environment and the content areas. Restrictions: Must be enrolled in one of the following Levels: Graduate College of Health and Human Sciences School of Education
