Catalog description
Explores the concepts and theories pertaining to the Internet and other new media technologies, their role in the communication process, and their consequences for society and culture. Issues addressed: content (news to hate speech to pornography), effects (i.e., Internet addiction), commerce (i.e., online shopping and advertising), and democracy (i.e., the digital divide). This course is intended for anyone interested in making sense of new media. Although the ability to use the Internet is expected, this is not a course on how to design web pages or how to improve your surfing skills. College of Arts & Sciences Communication
