Catalog description

This course focuses on the comprehension of ASL conversation at a natural pace with a variety of native language users. Expressive sign skills through voice to sign interpretation will be a primary focus through the application of sign interpretation of monologues and conversational dialogues while also incorporating introductory interpreting concepts and Interpreter Code of Ethics applications. Appreciation for the aesthetic norms of ASL are studied along with the interfaces made within the cultural framework of the language. Advanced receptive and expressive skills will be developed. Exposure to the Deaf community will become more direct and interactive. Members of the local Deaf community will play a role in the instruction of students as guests in our classes.
