Catalog description

This course introduces students to foundational drawing and illustration practices through observation, interpretation, experimentation, and critique. The course emphasizes the development of visual perception, mark-making, composition, value, proportion, and process while also introducing students to illustration as a way of communicating ideas. Students work from direct observation, photographic reference, and assigned prompts to build technical confidence and conceptual awareness. The course supports the growth of hand skills, discipline-specific vocabulary, and studio habits that prepare students for future coursework in drawing, illustration, design, and related studio areas.
