This course explores foundational debates on democracy in America through an in-depth examination of the Constitution\2019s philosophical foundations, Federalist and Antifederalist arguments during the ratification of the U.S. Constitution, Alexis de Tocqueville’s seminal work, “Democracy in America,” and antebellum debates on slavery and the U.S. Constitution. Restrictions: Must be enrolled in one of the following Levels: Graduate College of Arts & Sciences Political Science
