Max Credit: (Max. 3) Deals primarily with public methods of making decisions concerning the use and development of land. Land use decisions range from the issuance of building permits or variances to zoning to long-range planning. Examines tensions between private and public interests (private landowners, community residents, developers, business persons, and city/county officials) over the use of private property, the legal principles that inform the possible resolutions of these tensions and define governmental authority, and the implications of land use regulation for the exercise of other rights, such as free speech.
