How do maps get made? Introduction to how and why geographic information systems (GIS) are used in anthropology. Considers: 1) background, definitions, and concepts of geographic data and GIS; 2) Anthropological and archaeological approaches to GIS; and 3) hands-on-experience with GIS applications in archaeology through demonstrations, lectures, and structured inquiries.
