The course addresses the experiences of African women from 1800 to independent Africa with a focus on women's experiences and their contributions to African societies. The course covers changing ideas about gender and evaluates women's positions in African societies, including rulers, warriors, politicians, activists, and average farmers. (HA, HA-H) PREREQ: MINIMUM SOPHOMORE STANDING OR INSTRUCTOR CONSENT
