Catalog description

A bilingual course for individuals studying or working in education. It focuses on the development of communication skills and field-specific terminology, an understanding of cultural systems and approaches to education, and the cultural competency necessary for future educators to partner with Latinx/e/a/o students and their families to support academic success. It explores linguistic components to help educators communicate with their students and families, while employing a social justice lens to examine the cultural, systemic, and historical factors that play a role in our educational system. It includes a community-based learning component that allows students to engage directly with ELLs. PREREQ: ( SPANISH 321 AND SPANISH 322 ) OR ( SPANISH 325 AND SPANISH 326 )
