Catalog description

The goal of this course is to prepare health and helping professional students to engage in culturally competent practice within a variety of social service and healthcare arenas. The course examines the role of race and ethnicity as factors that affect patient/client health outcomes and explores the importance of transcultural competence as a standard of care. Course content includes information on general characteristics of numerous racial and ethnic groups, with particular attention to African Americans, Latinx, Asian Americans, and Native Americans, as well as cultural and religious groups. Transcultural principles and application to various healthcare environments are explored.
